If you're a parent and you value creativity, watch this

I finally watched the TED talk by Sir Ken Robinson last week that @ColeySims had recommended some time ago. Glad I did. He put to words so many of the feelings I've had about our education system, and to a larger extent our society in general. And he does it with such a smart wit, he's a treat to watch.

My Spidey senses light up anytime someone or some (insert name of large institutionalized organization here) tells me "don't be creative, just do it our way". I credit this with keeping my creativity largely intact all this time, which I'm grateful for.

Take 20 and watch this, you won't regret it.

Baker under the spotlight

Mt. Baker is getting a blast of sun off in the distance, looks amazing from my cloudy vantage atop Anderson Hill in Victoria.

Miss the ski days there with my crazy fast uncle. He still has ski patrol stuggling to catch him to issue slow down orders, even in his 80’s now.

They just laugh when they see it’s him, he’s been making young guys like me look feable up there for 20 years now.

For 2010, I'm with Lisa.

In these times of ridiculousness, I thought I'd turn to the Simpsons for some wisdom looking forward to next year. Glad I did. Lisa's got the winner when it comes to resolutions.

Homer Simpson: In 2010, I will finally get around to voting for President.
Marge Simpson: I'll try to be more assertive if it's okay with everyone else.
Bart Simpson: I plan to raise a family of skunks in Principal Skinner's car.
Lisa Simpson: I will make the world a colder, greener, jazzier place.
Grampa Simpson: Let's just make this the best 1933 we can.

Happy New Year all, may it keep you in good health and bring more goodness to our world.
